Mueller's walkable streets and mild-most-of-the-year weather make it one of Austin's best neighborhoods for outdoor dining. Here are eight patios worth knowing about, ranked by how long you'll want to stay.
1. Colleen's Kitchen — The One You'll Linger At
1900 Aldrich Street · Open daily 8am-9pm. The sprawling back patio at Colleen's has picnic tables, string lights, and a live oak that provides actual shade (not the decorative kind). Best for weekend brunch — the migas plate ($14) and a frozen margarita ($10) make a two-hour sit feel like a vacation. Dog-friendly with water bowls at every table.
2. Batch Craft Soda (Farmers Market Pop-Up) — The Sunday Ritual
Mueller Farmers Market, Philomena & Aldrich · Sundays 10am-2pm. Technically a table with an umbrella, but the "patio" is the entire farmers market plaza. Grab a hibiscus lime soda ($5), sit on the low wall by the pecan trees, and watch the neighborhood stroll by. Peak Mueller energy.
3. Torchy's Tacos — The Reliable Classic
1801 E. 51st Street · Open daily 7am-10pm. The Mueller Torchy's patio is bigger and less crowded than the South Congress original. Green chile queso ($6.50) and a Lone Star tallboy ($4) on a Tuesday evening — nothing fancy, everything right. Covered seating available.
4. Sap's Thai Kitchen — The Hidden One
4812 Barbara Jordan Blvd · Tue-Sun 11am-9pm. Four small tables on a side patio that most people walk past. Order the grilled pork neck ($16) and a Singha ($6), and you'll forget you're in a strip mall parking lot. No reservations — if the patio is full, you wait or eat inside.
5. Halcyon Mueller — The Coffee-to-Cocktails Transition
1905 Aldrich Street · Open daily 7am-midnight. Start with coffee in the morning, transition to beer by afternoon, cocktails by evening — all from the same seat. The front patio faces Aldrich Street, which gives it a European café feel. S'mores kit ($8) on the fire pit after dark.
6. The League Kitchen & Tavern — The Sports Patio
1903 Aldrich Street · Open daily 11am-11pm. Multiple TVs visible from the patio, which matters on UT game days. The burgers are above-average ($15-18), the beer selection is deep (24 taps), and the patio has fans for summer. Gets loud during games — fair warning.
7. Vinson's — The Low-Key Hangout
4715 E. 51st Street · Open daily 11am-10pm. A small side patio that's more "chairs outside a bar" than "designed patio space," but the beer is cold, the burgers are cheap ($12), and nobody's trying too hard. Mueller's least pretentious outdoor drinking spot.
8. Mueller Lake Park Amphitheater — The Free One
Mueller Lake Park · Open dawn to dusk. Not a restaurant patio, but the concrete steps at the amphitheater are Mueller's best BYOB spot. Bring a picnic, watch the sunset over the lake, and enjoy the only patio in Mueller that doesn't charge you $14 for a drink. Check the calendar for free concerts at muelleraustin.com/events.
